BeatPrints just released a new big update to their Music Poster Generator!
So over the years I’ve been a pretty faithful Scrobbler of the music that I listen to so that I can not only keep track of new songs or artists that I come across but also because it makes sharing that content a bit easier with others. The problem I’ve run into though is how those links look when embedded on different social platforms. For instance a link to a song that is hosted on YouTube will look one way when posted on mastodon and a different way when posted on twitter. In the past I’d just chalk it up to the cost of doing business on multiple social networks but now that is a thing of the past! Let me show you this completely free & open source music poster generator that I found on Github named BeatPrints . It’s written in Python and can be used for an individual song or for the entire album. Here’s two examples that I made from earlier today: Vincent Neil Emerson’s song Manhattan Island Serenade is on the left and is using the dark theme with the extra color flair option selected and Sierra Ferrell’s cover of Years is on the right using the light theme as well as the extra color flair option.
In addition to letting you choose between the light and dark themes it also allows for custom images, the addition or removal of that colorful bar in the middle (that’s the extra flair option) and custom lyrics. Installing it on any platform is a cakewalk and setting up the config file is just copy and pasting in your Spotify API key and deciding where you want it to save your images. After it finds what song and album you want to showcase it will then search on Spotify for the lyrics. If it can’t find any it will still give you the option to copy and paste in your own. Now I’ve down-scaled and optimized the two images you see above but the original files that the script creates are all high quality .PNG files.
Anyhow, it’s just a cool new way to showoff your music library. If you’d like something similar but without having to install anything, there’s a web-based poster generator that you can also customize a bit called Posterfy .
